Machine washing is safe for most cotton, polyester, nylon, linen, and synthetic blends. Cold water (30°C) is recommended for coloured and delicate fabrics; warm water (40°C) for whites and heavily soiled items. Fibres sensitive to agitation and heat — silk, cashmere, angora, cupro, wool (unless labelled 'superwash') — should not be machine-washed. Agitation causes felting in animal fibres. Mesh laundry bags reduce pilling and fibre damage for delicates.
